Partnership Allows for the 802.11n IP Implementation of RF, PHY and MAC Into SoCs

LOS ANGELES, CA and COSTA MESA, CA--Jul 21, 2008 -- Silvus Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of semiconductor Intellectual Property (IP) solutions for wireless applications, and Orange Coast Semiconductor, Inc., a leading provider of state-of-the-art analog and mixed-signal IP technology, today announced the formation of a partnership that will deliver a turnkey RF/PHY/MAC 802.11n IP solution to customers. Silvus Technologies will be providing its 802.11n PHY/MAC IP solution, which is a licensable and synthesizable HDL implementation of the IEEE Standard 802.11n Draft 2.0 Edition. Orange Coast Semiconductor will deliver a MIMO capable RF IP solution.

Silvus' 802.11n PHY/MAC IP solution includes 20 MHz and 40 MHz advanced MIMO modes (including 4x4, 3x4 configurations), optimized gate counts and power optimization, as well as a small footprint and a low MIPS requirement. The IP solution also provides for full backward compatibility to 802.11a/b/g systems.

Orange Coast Semiconductor's RF IP core is a complete RF transceiver for 802.11a/b/g/n. It includes the RF Front-end and Frequency Synthesizer, with optional integrated ADC/DAC, providing an analog and optional digital interface to the digital PHY. The RF IP core covers all world bands 2.412-2.484GHz & 4.915-5.795GHz, has a zero-IF with an optional on-chip ADC/DAC, is 64-QAM compliant and MIMO compatible, features very low power consumption -- in Rx, and offers a small core size. The RF IP core is designed in CMOS technology.

According to David Hartman, co-founder of Orange Coast Semiconductor, "The core has been optimized for embedded integration. Only the PA, RF switch, balun and a small number of passive components are needed to form a complete RF solution."

"Integration on SoCs is being supported by designs that have become pad-limited, leaving 'free' logic gates," said David McCartney, COO of Silvus Technologies, Inc. "This is driving design teams to internalize functions that have previously been external and is resulting in companies looking to 802.11n IP solutions more than ever before. With the Orange Coast Semiconductor partnership, we can now offer an 802.11n IP solution from the antenna to the host interface."
