LONDON — XMOS Ltd., a fabless semiconductor company founded by academic computer scientist David May, has been revealed as a developer of a configurable hardware fabric — which usually implies a programmable array of resources.

XMOS (Bristol, England), led by chief executive officer James Foster, has previously been described as developing a microprocessor architecture conceived by May. But fixed instruction set microprocessors while having the flexibility of software programmability lack the power efficiency of parallel resources tuned to a particular application.
