The role of virtual fabless providers for a predictable road to product
Biography: Massimo Vanzi is the CEO of Accent S.p.A., the highly successful global provider of microelectronics product design and realisation solutions. A founding member of Accent in 1993, Massimo has helped establish the company as one of the world’s Top 20 players and one of the Top 3 companies in the European market. Having gained a Degree in Electronics from the University of Genoa in 1976 and subsequently an MSc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford University in California, Massimo has nearly 30 years experience in the semiconductor industry, the past 13 of which have been dedicated to the provision of electronic product realisation services with Accent. Massimo was instrumental in the recent €10.6 million financing in Accent led by Sofinnova Partners that also included the Italian Private Equity firm CAPE Natexis and a group of business angels from the electronics industry. Previously a joint venture company between STMicroelectronics and Cadence Design Systems, the investment followed STMicroelectronics’ decision to divest its majority shareholding in Accent as outlined in its 2005 plan to focus its attention on its core businesses and markets. Accent provides a full turnkey solution for microelectronics product design and realisation from concept definition through complex architecture and design implementation to supply chain management for volume production. Under Massimo’s guidance, Accent is able to draw on over 1,000 man years of product design and realisation experience that has resulted in the implementation of over 300 designs with an impressive track record of 98% first-time working silicon and 50 million semiconductor parts manufactured for clients. |
