Zoran Corporation Licenses Kilopass' XPM Memory Technology; Standard CMOS Technology Adds On-Chip Security ID to Digital Entertainment Products
Update: Synopsys Expands DesignWare IP Portfolio with Acquisition of Kilopass Technology (Jan. 10, 2018)
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2005--Kilopass Technology Inc., a leading provider of semiconductor non-volatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP) for standard CMOS logic, today announced that Zoran Corporation, a leading provider of digital solutions for applications in the digital entertainment and digital imaging markets, has licensed Kilopass' XPM memory technology. The 0.18-micron standard CMOS process selected by Zoran for its system-on chip (SoC) design uses Kilopass' One-Time Programmable (OTP), embedded non-volatile XPM memory technology to store a secure ID.
"Several competing technologies were considered. The XPM memory technology was determined to have the best combination of functionality, area, manufacturability and ease of production flow," said David Auld, Vice President Technology, Zoran Corporation. "The XPM memory has been successfully integrated and demonstrated as functional."
"We are pleased that Zoran, a leading solutions supplier for OEMs producing innovative consumer electronics products, has selected our XPM memory technology for its secure consumer applications," said Charles Ng, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Kilopass Technology.
Design Security
Kilopass' XPM memory technology has security characteristics that make it effectively impossible to reverse-engineer. Because the memory block is embedded, information is secured internal to the SoC's design. There is no floating charge as with Flash technology, so low-cost passive reverse-engineering methods are not possible. In addition, an XPM memory cell has no visible indicators that would reveal its state, if the chip were to be de-layered.
