Xilinx, CorEdge and Yamaichi Demonstrate Flexible 10gbps Packet Processing on Industry Standard ATCA/AMC Platform
The jointly developed platform includes the industry's first reprogrammable Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) and cutaway AMC carrier and is capable of switching Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet channels. The platform provides system designers with the flexibility to support various applications using a single AMC carrier card. The platform also enables a more efficient use of the network and provides key new features such as multi-protocol support and enhanced QoS and policy-based networking. Providing these intelligent networking capabilities on an ATCA standardized backplane provides designers a low-cost architecture that provides Telco-grade reliability in this rapidly growing market.
Ernie Bergstrom -- Principal Analyst with Crystal Cube Consulting an ATCA market research firm specializing in Open System Platforms, headquartered in the Seattle Metropolitan area -- predicts that Xilinx' ATCA backplane shipments could reach a potential of over 1.5 million units, based on the Total Available Market (TAM) generating more than $41 billion in revenue by year-end 2009.
